About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach played out a 1-1 draw at the Weserstadion on Saturday. The result was a fair reflection of the match, with both teams having their moments but ultimately unable to secure all three points. The game began with both sides showing intent, but it was Borussia Mönchengladbach who broke the deadlock in the 61st minute through Haris Tabaković (GAP -0.8%). His goal gave the visitors a crucial lead and seemed to set them on course for a valuable away victory. However, Werder Bremen responded late in the game, with substitute Keke Topp scoring a dramatic equalizer in the 90th minute to salvage a point for the home side. From a tactical perspective, Werder Bremen's manager made several changes during the match, bringing on Marco Grüll, Isaac Schmidt, Jovan Milosevic, and Keke Topp, which ultimately paid off with Topp's late goal. Borussia Mönchengladbach also utilized their bench, introducing Kevin Stöger, Jens Castrop, Marvin Friedrich, and Shuto Machino, but were unable to regain their lead. Key performances included Marco Friedl (GAP +3.9%), who was instrumental in defense for Werder Bremen, and Joe Scally (GAP +2.4%), who provided stability at the back for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Franck Honorat (GAP +1.9%) also had a notable impact for the visitors, contributing to their attacking efforts. This draw leaves Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with both teams looking to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures. The point helps Bremen maintain their mid-table position, while Mönchengladbach will be keen to convert such performances into wins to climb higher in the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
